HISTORY... Co-founded in late 2007 by Reno native Douglas Booth and brewmaster Daniel Kahn, these self described "beer junkies" met through an ad posted on probrewer.com and joined forces in 2004 with the goal to create a microbrew that would appeal to all drinkers. Buckbean opened its doors with 2 unique brews - the Original Orange Blossom Amber and Black Noddy Lager. Buckbean takes its name from the buckbean plant - a herb that grows in the Tahoe meadows and in mountain bogs throughout North America and Eurasia. Buckbean leaves have been traditionally used as a substitute for hops in brewing beer as well as a herbal remedy for stomach ailments. Nevada's largest production brewery is also the only Nevada Brewery to distribute its beers in 16oz cans which is both environmentally friendly and a superior container to bottles. The brewery likes to support the local community and sponsors several events a year. BREWING SYSTEM... Information coming soon! THE BREWERS... Brewmaster: Daniel Kahn holds a B.S. in Engineering Science from the University of Texas and a Professional Brewers Certificate from the University of California at Davis. Additionally a former chef, he brings a unique combination of passion and skills for turning raw ingredients into beer - creatively combining and interpreting dozens of different styles of brewing to achieve award winning results. Starting as a brewmaster at Riverside Brewing Company in California, Daniel created a new style of beer to celebrate the local Orange Blossom Festival. He was the first to utilize orange blossoms to make a uniquely refreshing and fragrant beer - now known as the Buckbean Original Orange Blossom Ale. The next move was to Buzzards Bay Brewing in Westport, Massachucettes, where he further sharpened his skills in choosing and blending beer ingredients and flavors. Then he read the probrew.com ad and was off to Nevada! ATMOSPHERE... Located in an industrial complex, this massive warehouse space provides a completely open brewery - the medium sized bar area in the front has a fantastic view of the entire operation. With all equipment on display, the brewing system, fermenting and storage tanks create a great backdrop for guests to watch the action. Formal & informal tours can be easily arranged.
