Big Dog's Brewery

HISTORY...

From Cow to Dog: Holy Cow! started it all in 1993 as Las Vegas’ first brewpub. For nearly a decade, the icon of a Holstein cow perched atop the roof of a building on the Las Vegas Strip at Sahara beckoned to travelers seeking the Mecca of artisanal beer in Vegas. Holy Cow! beckons no more, having closed its doors in March of 2002. A new and larger brewhouse was constructed on the site of The Draft House in Northwest Las Vegas, and in 2004 the brewery reopened. The Cow was renamed Big Dog’s Brewing Company, a name change to honor Big Dog’s founder, Tom Wiesner, the original ‘Big Dog.’ A prominent Las Vegas business owner, Clark County commissioner, member of the UNLV Board of Regents and the co-captain of the 1960 Wisconsin football team that played in the Rose Bowl, Wiesner passed away in 2002. A stand-out running back, his football nickname was ‘The Big Dog.’

ATMOSPHERE...

Having 12 draft beers, the brewpub is a Wisconsin-themed draft house with U of Wisconsin and Packer football displays adorning its walls. The brewery is a featured element on display through large windows in the room. The center bar area has a variety of gaming machines surrounded by many bar height tables. The remainder of the large space has plenty of seating with clear views to the many flat screens tuned to sports. Adjacent to the main room, the dining barn is a loving tribute to cows and all things country. The menu has ample selections and customers are served hearty helpings of comfort food. The original award winning Holy Cow Pale Ale, which set the standard for local great beers, is always on tap for the loyal fans.

BEERS ON TAP...

Leglifter Light: Light in color and mild in flavor, this beer is a refreshing alternative to American-style light lagers.

K9 Kolsch: Golden in color, crisp and clean, cold conditioned for unparalleled smoothness.

Tailwagger Wheat: Authentic Bavarian-style Hefeweizen, possessing characteristic banana & clove aromas produced by the unique German yeast strain.

Holy Cow! Original Pale Ale: Brewed in the tradition of early West Coast ales, it is light amber in color with a distinctive Northwest hop character.

Red Hydrant Ale: A deep mahogany brew, rich with caramel malts and a hint of English hops with notes of toffee and toasted malt.

Big Dog's 38 Special: The founder's favorite: A blend of our Gold Medal winning brews....Holy Cow! Original Pale Ale and Red Hydrant Ale.

Dirty Dog I.P.A.: Very hoppy! India Pale Ale's were originally brewed in London and shipped to British troops in India.

Black Lab Stout: A rich, dark ale brewed with nine different malts along with roasted barley, distinguished by hints of coffee and cocoa.

Brewmaster's Specials: Ask your server about the availability and pricing of our current selection of special brews. Not all specialty brews are available at all locations.
